Players chasing the 1911 in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Zombies have probably already noticed the official route is annoyingly slow. Right now, the handgun is tied to the Season 3 Weekly Challenge system, so you're meant to sit tight until it rotates in, then clear enough objectives to claim it properly. That's fine if you don't mind waiting. If you do, though, a lot of people messing around in CoD BO7 Bot Lobby chats and Zombies runs have been talking about the same early-use trick, and yeah, it actually works. It won't unlock the weapon forever, but it does let you try it ahead of schedule if the game gives you the right roll.

The whole thing is happening on Astra Malorum, and it's tied to Cursed mode. You don't just load in and grab the gun off the floor. First, you need a decent run going and enough control over the match to survive into the higher rounds without getting folded. Round 20 is the usual point where this starts to matter. Around then, you can trigger the Seed Relic portal sequence, which sets up a random trial. One of those trials asks you to use a plain grey pistol and get a required number of zombie kills based on your current round. Sounds simple on paper. In practice, it gets messy fast, especially when the room starts filling and that low-tier pistol feels like it's shooting peas.

Once the trial is done, you head through the portal and hope the reward pool is kind to you. That's the catch. The 1911 can appear, but there's no promise at all. You may see it quickly, or you may burn a stack of attempts and come away with nothing useful. That random element is what makes the method feel more like a side hustle than a real unlock path. Still, if the pistol drops, you can use it for the rest of that match, level it, and get a proper feel for how it handles in live combat. For players who care about recoil, damage feel, or early camo progress, that's enough to make the grind tempting.

A lot of players hear about this trick and assume it skips the official requirement. It doesn't. The portal version is temporary, full stop. When the match ends, the weapon is gone from your loadout unless you later unlock it through the normal challenge rotation. That's why some people walk away disappointed after finally seeing the drop. They think they've beaten the system, then realise they've only borrowed the gun for one session. It's still useful, sure, especially if you want some hands-on time before the challenge appears, but it's not the same as owning it in your armoury.

If you're the sort of player who likes testing weapons early, then this is a fun little detour. You get a preview, you can mess with the gun in a real match, and sometimes that alone is enough to make the run feel worthwhile. If you just want a clean unlock with no fuss, waiting for the official challenge is still the smarter move. The portal farm is too inconsistent to recommend as your main plan. Even so, plenty of Zombies fans will keep rolling Astra Malorum because the chance is there, and if you're already spending time in the mode, checking in with BO7 Bot Lobby players and trying your luck yourself isn't a bad way to kill an evening.
